On October 9, Virtus Segafredo Bologna shared that Achille Polonara would be having surgery to remove a detected testicular neoplasm.
Fast forward almost two months and the player is making a comeback.
Having undergone surgery and chemotherapy, Achille returned to the court during a victory against Tortona. He played for eight minutes, scoring five points.
Achille’s triumphant return after battling the disease took center stage in the latest episode of the VIRTUS UNCOVERED series.
The Italian forward candidly shared his journey in this episode, highlighting that he is ready to return to action.
“It’s been a very difficult time, but I’m happy to be back with the guys, and I’m very happy because after almost two months from surgery, I feel good and I’m ready to be back on the court,” Polonara said.
Throughout his healing process, Achille received significant support, remained a source of encouragement for his teammates, and dedicated his utmost effort to regain fitness as quickly as he could.
“It’s never easy, even if you are out just for one game, to be watching your teammates. It’s always been like this for me; I’ve always been in touch with the team.
“I was always training before or after them, so I also attended team meetings, watched a lot of team practices, and kept in touch with the guys.”
