Roberto De Zerbi Emphasizes Importance of Alignment with Tottenham Ownership
Roberto De Zerbi has asserted that his future at Tottenham will depend on maintaining a shared vision with the club’s ownership, rather than on the team’s current position in the Premier League. The Italian coach stated that he has no immediate plans to leave the North London club, despite them being in the relegation zone.
When discussing the potential of being relegated, De Zerbi mentioned that his primary focus is on the internal collaboration between himself and the board rather than the league standings. In an interview, he expressed: “The problem is not the league. The problem is to keep the relationship with the board and to have the same ideas in the project.”
He further emphasized the need for mutual understanding, stating, “Yes. Everyone on the same page.” De Zerbi’s comments highlight his commitment to a long-term strategy but underscore his desire for clear communication and tactical support from the management.
Can De Zerbi Secure Tottenham’s Survival?
De Zerbi faces a challenging situation as Tottenham currently sits in 18th place, following a 1-0 loss to Sunderland in his first game in charge. The team is on a difficult 14-match winless streak in the Premier League and has not achieved a victory in 2026 thus far.
With just six matches left in the season, the urgency to establish a winning approach is critical. De Zerbi has pointed to the upcoming returns of key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as sources of hope, but he must first successfully navigate a tough schedule that includes games against Chelsea and Everton. Should the team fail to secure safety, the strength of his relationship with the board may soon be put to the test.
