The Surrey Scorchers will be looking to avenge last week’s defeat to the Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles as they travel to Tyneside to face off against the British Basketball League’s most in-form team.
Meanwhile, the Newcastle Eagles will be looking to continue their six-game winning streak, putting the League on notice as the most in-form team.
Newcastle know that a win will lift them up above the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks into third place.
Surrey, on the other hand, need the win in order to firmly cement themselves into the playoff places.
Unstoppable force
The sides met last week in Surrey, with the hosts unable to make it three consecutive home wins, losing 87-100.
The Scorchers followed up that tough loss with nail-biting win away to the Plymouth City Patriots.
They will travel up to the North East with the aim of ending their opponents’ six-game winning streak.
At the same time they know a win can further cement their position in the Playoff spots, putting them two wins above the Manchester Giants.
The Eagles haven’t played since their previous win over Surrey, so will theoretically be fresher and better rested.
Having won six games on the bounce, the hosts have gone from a record of 3-7 to 9-7, steamrolling their way into the top four.
Shootout
The two sides aren’t afraid to take a lot of shots.
Newcastle attempt the second most two-pointers on average per game with 44.8, just behind the Sheffield Sharks with 45.
The Geordies’ top scorer Jordan Johnson is a perfect example of that, averaging 18.8 points per game, having shot the fifth most two-point attempts in the entire League.
The Scorchers, on the other hand, lead the League with most three-point attempts, averaging 30.8 per game.
This tactic seems to be working well for them, shooting with a percentage of 35.2%.
Surrey’s big man Saiquan Jamison is also a threat, grabbing 8.6 rebounds on average per game, which is the third highest in the League.
That’s coupled with a very respectable 7.1 points per game.
With both teams on a positive run of results, expect this game to be a close encounter full of action.
