In a bottom
of the British Basketball League match-up, it was the Plymouth City Patriots
who started off the quicker team in Manchester.
The
Patriots started off efficiently and dominantly, with a 20-2 lead taken within
the first few minutes of the first quarter. Manchester were able to stop the
bleeding and claw their way back into the game, however.
Jamell
Anderson and Mason Bourcier combined for 12 points for the Giants but were
struggling with the talented Taylor Johnson for the Patriots, who put up 10
points of his own.
Plymouth’s
rebounding was showing itself to be the difference maker with an 11-6 advantage
over Manchester. At the end of the first quarter, the Patriots were ahead
32-20.
The Giants
weren’t ready to give up without a fight, however. The second quarter showed
Manchester’s spirit, with Bourcier and Anderson continuing to pour in the
points for the Giants.
By the end
of the quarter, the Giants duo had combined for 22 points.
Jacob Wiley
of the Patriots joined Johnson in double-digit points for Plymouth, with their offence
starting to slow down but still ahead of the Giants.
Going into half-time, the Patriots were still ahead but saw the Giants claw their way back into the game fast. The score was 52-45 going into the second half.
Second Half
The Giants
were able to climb back into the game after what must have been an inspiring
half-time team-talk.
After being
behind by seven points at the end of the first half, Manchester were now only
two points behind entering the fourth quarter.
Nicolas
Lewis started to see the bottom of the net with Lewis scoring nine points in
the third quarter to take his total up to 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
The
Patriots were still narrowly ahead, with Johnson, Wiley, and TJ Atwood all into
double-digit points. Johnson was still the leading scorer with 18 points, but
the Patriots’ lead was slipping away very quickly.
Going into
the fourth and final quarter, the Patriots were still ahead 70-68.
The Giants
were able to keep their fight going, as they had shown throughout the game in
the fourth quarter. A resurgent William Lee added nine points in the fourth
quarter, with Nicolas Lewis tallying up 20 points by the end of the game.
Manchester
were able to sneak away from the Patriots and grab the lead, holding onto it
until the end of the game, with a near miss from Plymouth in the last
possession gifting the game to the Giants.
The Manchester Giants won in the end against the Plymouth City Patriots, winning 91-90.
Player of the Game
Tonight’s Player of the Game was William Lee of the Manchester Giants. Lee logged 18 points to go with 11 rebounds, notching up an impressive double-double.
Team | Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists |

Manchester Giants | Nicolas Lewis | 20 | 2 | 2 |
