Lutsharel Geertruida is a prime candidate for a move to the Premier League this summer, with several clubs expressing interest.
The 25-year-old defender is currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig. The German club has set a transfer fee of €30 million for his release. Reports indicate that both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on acquiring the Dutch international.
Liverpool’s Interest in Geertruida
Liverpool is looking to enhance their defensive lineup, and Geertruida could serve as a versatile addition, capable of playing as a right-back, center-back, or defensive midfielder. A transfer to a top Premier League club appeals to him at this stage of his career.
Returning to RB Leipzig seems unlikely, as his future there is uncertain.
Both Liverpool and Tottenham have the financial capacity to meet his asking price, but it remains to be seen if they will follow through with the transfer. With both clubs seeking to bolster their defensive ranks, Geertruida, who has showcased his talent at Sunderland, has the potential to thrive at a higher level.
Geertruida’s Future
As Geertruida approaches the prime of his career, he represents a sensible investment, and at €30 million, he could be perceived as a cost-effective option. Liverpool offers him a chance to compete in European competitions next season, which may provide them an advantage over Tottenham, who are currently battling relegation and will not participate in European tournaments next year.
With Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley facing injuries, Liverpool would benefit greatly from a player like Geertruida.
