Marta Kostyuk, the promising Ukrainian tennis player, has announced her withdrawal from the ongoing Italian Open due to concerns over a hip and ankle injury. This decision comes shortly after she celebrated the most significant victory of her career at the Madrid Open, where she triumphed on Saturday.
Kostyuk’s recent success has propelled her to a personal best ranking of 15th in the world. Prior to her Madrid victory, she also captured a title in Rouen, France, leading to a remarkable winning streak of 11 matches.
In a statement shared via her Instagram account, Kostyuk expressed her disappointment: “After the best stretch of my career, I was looking forward to Rome. But sometimes your body has other plans, and over the past few days I’ve been dealing with a hip issue. With my ankle still not fully at 100%, it’s just not smart to keep pushing right now, so I won’t be competing there this year.”
Kostyuk emphasized the importance of focusing on her recovery, stating, “Now it’s time to recover and get ready for Paris,” as she looks ahead to the French Open starting on May 24. Her fans and supporters will undoubtedly be eager to see her return to the court in top form for this prestigious Grand Slam event.
