ROME – Marta Kostyuk, the Ukrainian standout who recently claimed her first major title at the Madrid Open, has announced her withdrawal from the Italian Open due to ongoing hip and ankle injuries. This decision comes as a disappointment to fans who were eager to see her compete following her remarkable victory.
Kostyuk’s triumph in Madrid not only marked a pinnacle in her career but also propelled her to a career-high ranking of No. 15. Prior to her success in Spain, she secured another win on clay in Rouen, France, which added to her impressive momentum, pushing her winning streak to 11 matches.
In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram, Kostyuk expressed her disappointment at being unable to participate in Rome. “After experiencing the best stretch of my career, I was truly looking forward to playing in Rome. However, my body seems to have other plans. Over the past few days, I’ve been struggling with a hip issue, and my ankle is still not completely healed. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wise to continue competing at this time.”
She also emphasized her focus on recovery, stating, “Now it’s all about getting better and preparing for the upcoming French Open,” which is scheduled to commence on May 24.
As Kostyuk takes the necessary time to heal, fans will be eagerly anticipating her return to the court, especially with the prestigious Grand Slam event around the corner.
