Musetti Withdraws from French Open Following Leg Injury

Lorenzo Musetti’s struggles with injury have persisted into the 2026 tennis season, leading to his recent withdrawal from the prestigious French Open. The Italian star officially announced on Wednesday that he will not compete in the upcoming Grand Slam due to a thigh injury.

Having shown signs of distress during his third-round match at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where he secured a hard-fought victory over Francisco Cerundolo with a scoreline of 7-6(7), 6-4, Musetti attempted to battle through the pain. However, his campaign ended on a disappointing note when he faced Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals and suffered a lopsided defeat of 6-3, 6-1.

Following his match against Ruud, Musetti underwent medical evaluations that unveiled a rectus femoris injury, which necessitates a period of rest and rehabilitation lasting several weeks. In a heartfelt message shared with his fans on social media, he expressed, “After yesterday’s match, I underwent medical examinations which revealed a rectus femoris injury, requiring several weeks of rest and recovery. Unfortunately, this means I won’t be able to compete in Hamburg and Roland Garros — news that is incredibly hard to take. A huge thank you to the Rome crowd for your incredible support; that’s exactly why, despite not being 100%, I chose to step on court and give everything I had in my home tournament. I’ll keep you updated.”

At just 24 years old, Musetti made significant strides on clay courts last year, reaching the semifinals in both Rome and Paris. His achievements in the 2025 season included a finals appearance in Monte-Carlo and a semifinal finish in Madrid. As he steps away from the tour, Musetti faces the potential of a dip in his ATP ranking due to the forfeited points from his previous successes. The upcoming weeks will be pivotal for Musetti as he focuses on recovery and the path ahead in his professional tennis career.
