Newcastle Focused on Signing Suarez
Reports from Correio da Manha via SportWitness indicate that Newcastle is actively pursuing Suarez, who has achieved 44 goal contributions this season. The club has initiated discussions regarding the 28-year-old player’s availability.
Suarez joined Sporting CP last summer from UD Almeria for approximately €22.95 million, filling the role left by Viktor Gyokeres, who transferred to Arsenal. He has significantly contributed to alleviating the absence of the Swedish striker with an impressive tally of 35 goals and nine assists in just 50 matches.
The striker’s outstanding performances have caught the attention of Newcastle, who are currently in search of a new forward after failing to find a suitable replacement for Alexander Isak, who exited last summer. As a result, Howe is eager for additional attacking options as the new season approaches.
Newcastle has great admiration for Suarez, particularly after his strong showings in the Champions League. While he is primarily known for his central role, he is also capable of playing on the left wing.
Cost of Securing Suarez
Newcastle leads the chase for Suarez’s signature, but acquiring him won’t be straightforward due to Sporting’s firm position regarding his future. With his contract extending until 2030, the Portuguese club holds all the cards and will only permit his departure if a hefty €80 million release clause is activated.
This asking price is considerably higher than his market valuation of approximately €28 million. It remains to be seen if Newcastle United will be willing to fulfill Sporting’s requirements, especially considering their limited financial resources. However, if Nick Woltemade—who has been linked with a potential exit—were to leave, the signing could become feasible.
