PSV Manager Bosz Interested in Permanent Signing of Sergino Dest

PSV manager Bosz open to permanent deal for Sergino Dest

Sergino Dest’s season-long loan spell at Dutch leaders PSV is set to conclude this coming June, but manager Peter Bosz is open to the idea of the club acquiring him long-term.

Bosz revealed his interest in keeping Dest in his squad, the manager said Wednesday in a pre-match press conference. Dest, who will reportedly be sidelined for the remainder of 2024 due to a serious knee injury, is set to return to leave Eindhoven at the conclusion of May’s schedule.

The U.S. men’s national team right back made 37 combined appearances for PSV, scoring two goals and adding seven assists across all competitions. Dest’s production helped PSV reach the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and also sit top of the Eredivisie standings for most of the season.

Although Barcelona will ultimately make the decision involving Dest’s long-term future, Bosz hopes that PSV can strike a deal for his services.

“I am talking for myself as a coach and as a staff,” Bosz said. “I would very much like to have him there. It clicked in the way we played. It clicked as a person. It clicked with the player group.

“He also just played well actually all season,” he added. “Then you want to keep him. The same goes for the club, actually. I think they would also like to keep him there.”

The 23-year-old’s recent injury is a sad ending to what has been a positive overall club campaign. In addition to missing the final Eredivisie matches of the season, Dest’s injury will also likely rule him out of the USMNT’s schedule this summer, which features hosting the 2024 Copa America.

Whether or not Dest is able to force a move away from Barcelona remains to be seen, but one thing for sure is, he has Bosz’s support if that move does come to fruition.
