The 2024 calendar will be riched by one huge event, the Olympics in Paris, something Jannik Sinner has circled in his calendar.
Next year’s Olympics will be slightly different because tennis will be played on clay. It’s been a long time since it’s been played on clay, as the last time it happened was in 1992 in Barcelona.
Since then, all events have been played on hard courts except the 2012 Olympics in London, which were played on grass, of course. That adds a bit of spice to the event, as not all players are great clay players.
Jannik Sinner is pretty good on the surface and could certainly do some damage if he keeps the level he showed recently. According to his coach, Darren Cahill, it’s an event he has circled for next year, so much so that Cahill called it a top priority.
“I would say that for the next season, his top priority is none other than the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is an event that we have already marked in red on our calendar because Jannik loves to represent Italy,” Cahill said, as quoted by Punto de Break.
Sinner has quickly emerged as the top tennis player from Italy, recently leading them to the Davis Cup trophy. He would cement his legacy as the best Italian ever if he pulled off gold for the country that has had some pretty strong players in the past.
Sinner deeply cares about making Italy proud, which Cahill confirmed. He was actually quite surprised at how much playing for Italy means to Sinner.
When he got injured last year in Paris-Bercy and couldn’t play in the Davis Cup, I realized how much cares about his country because he was really devasted.
Well, there will be plenty of those dying for the gold. Novak Djokovic famously never won gold for Serbia, and he called it his biggest dream.
