Emma Raducanu Set to Make Comeback in Strasbourg Following Four Consecutive Withdrawals

Emma Raducanu is set to return to professional tennis at the upcoming Internationaux de Strasbourg, marking her first appearance since early March due to a post-viral illness. The British star, who gained widespread recognition by winning the 2021 US Open, has faced a challenging year, pulling out of four consecutive tournaments after initially experiencing health issues in February.

Raducanu had traveled to Rome with hopes of participating in the Italian Open but ultimately chose to prioritize her recovery, feeling that she was not in optimal condition. By accepting a wild card for the Strasbourg event, she aims to gain much-needed match practice on clay ahead of the French Open, which is scheduled to start on May 24.

Last year, Raducanu also received a wild card to compete in Strasbourg, where she managed to reach the second round. Unfortunately, her ongoing health struggles have seen her fall to No. 30 in the WTA rankings. Earlier this year, she dealt with a foot injury and is currently navigating life on tour without a coach, having parted ways with Francisco Roig following the Australian Open.

In a conversation with reporters in Rome, Raducanu explained the toll that the illness took on her. She described the experience of recovering from a post-viral condition as “hard,” noting feelings of exhaustion and a lack of energy. However, she has expressed optimism about her recent progress, stating, “I think I’ve really turned a corner, and I feel so much better. I feel great on the court.” As she prepares for her return, fans will be watching closely to see how she performs and if she can regain her form ahead of the clay-court Grand Slam.
