Bristol Flyers host the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks on Saturday, seeking revenge for last Sunday’s loss in South Yorkshire.
On the previous occasion, the Sharks sent their home fans happy with an 88-78 win, with a returning Rodney Glasgow Jr. coming away with Player of the Game honours.
Glasgow Jr. had 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
Bristol, though, saw this game as an opportunity lost. Leading by as many as 14 points, they fell victim to a 16-2 run that saw Sheffield get back into the game and a 12-0 run in the third that kept the Flyers grounded.
Bristol has another shot at the Sharks, but this time, it’s in their house.
Not letting leads slip.
It was heartbreak for the Flyers on Thursday in Scotland as CJ Jackson’s long three-pointer smacked the backboard giving the Caledonia Gladiators an 85-82 win.
Bristol enjoyed periods of dominance, though, leading by as many as eight points in a closely-contested battle, but could not maintain that advantage when it mattered.
And again, what hurts the most is statistically, the Flyers fared a little better overall, shooting a better percentage in field goals, three-pointers and free throws while out-rebounding the Gladiators 29-22 and committing fewer turnovers.
So, for Andreas Kapoulas’ side, it’s about starting strong but finishing stronger.
What Glasgow Jr. brings
Glasgow Jr. proved to be a thorn in the Flyers’ side when the two teams last met, and no doubt he will look to silence the home crowd on Saturday.
A vocal leader in the guard position, Glasgow Jr. might not be the leading scorer all the time; however, he is the glue for the Sharks, which is something every coach loves.
Last season, he averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 assists a game, shooting 38.5% from the field but can put points on the board if needed and attacks the basket fearlessly, getting multiple chances at the foul line, where he was a 94% shooter last term.
He makes the players around him better, and with a strong Sheffield team getting results at the moment, he has made a great team better.
