Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski Likely to Stay Regardless of Relegation
Gianluca Di Marzio, a reporter for Sky Sports, has brought a flicker of optimism to Tottenham Hotspur fans by indicating that Dejan Kulusevski may continue with the club next season even if they face the unthinkable outcome of relegation to the Championship.
The team from North London is currently positioned in 18th place, with only six games left to secure their status in the Premier League.
Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Sunderland in Roberto De Zerbi’s first match last Sunday, tensions have escalated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Although a significant departure of players is anticipated this summer, Di Marzio believes the Swedish international is dedicated to the club’s future.
Di Marzio: Kulusevski’s Commitment is Key
In a conversation with bettingsidor.se reported by Football London, Di Marzio underlined Kulusevski’s character as essential for any potential rebuild.
Di Marzio expressed his views, stating:
“I firmly believe that Kulusevski will remain at Tottenham, even with relegation looming. He exemplifies the ideal player for others, and Roberto De Zerbi is fond of him. His mentality is right, making Kulusevski crucial to their ambitions, whether they stay in the Premier League or drop to the Championship.”
“De Zerbi will certainly aim to keep him. He values players with strong identities and personalities, and he will make efforts to hold on to him.”
Kulusevski’s Injury Struggles
This backing is particularly noteworthy as the 25-year-old has had a challenging season plagued by injuries.
Since May 2025, Kulusevski has been unable to feature in competitive matches due to a serious right kneecap injury suffered against Crystal Palace.
After undergoing a minor procedure in March 2026 to address the injury, he is close to regaining his fitness, though it is unlikely he will play again this season.
When healthy, Kulusevski is undoubtedly one of Spurs’ standout players. Last season, he made a remarkable contribution with 10 goals and 11 assists, playing a key role in securing the club’s first Europa League trophy.
Over his 146 appearances for Tottenham, he has netted 25 goals and provided 30 assists, gaining acclaim even from esteemed coaches like Pep Guardiola.
If Kulusevski remains with Tottenham amid the possibility of relegation, he will undoubtedly be pivotal in their efforts to regain top-flight status next season.
